Walthamstow Academy Prefect System

As well as the frequent informal opportunities to lead learning within Sixth Form lessons, there are formal leadership positions reserved for the Sixth Form. The positions of Head Boy, Head Girl and Head Prefect are much coveted and the competition to secure these roles is fiercely contested each year. The application process involves a presentation to the Principal and a rigorous interview conducted by members of the Academy’s senior leadership team. The Head Boy and Head Girl have wide reaching roles and responsibilities and become the ‘face’ of the Sixth Form during their tenure. They are seen as figureheads by students lower down the school and build strong relationships with each year group while chairing the school council meetings. The Head Prefect plays a crucial role in the day to day running of the Academy, organising the team of Prefects who manage Academy activities and charity events, act as mentors for students in the lower school and assist at parents’ evenings and open evenings.
