We have a thriving student leadership team at Walthamstow Academy. Led by Mr. Thorn along with the Head Boy Joshua Iton and Head Girl Rayma Risquet, students applied to become Prefects and successful applicants attended an intensive two day in house leadership residential exploring all aspects of leadership with various guest speakers and activities led by staff and students.
Prefects lead the wider team of democratically elected Year Council Representatives and classroom elected Form Representatives to deliver on a wide range of activities for students. These have recently included the successful ‘What’s Your Worry’ table, a pupil led mentoring service for all year groups. We have also created charity opportunities such as our Christmas Help the Homeless campaign in which the whole Academy gathered items to donate to two local homeless charities, FCENS and Branches.
Finally, we value what the student community has to say, and Academy Council is our chance to listen to student views. The Council is run by the students for the students every half term and allows us to celebrate our successes and discuss areas for improvement. Views get put before our SLT and actions taken to ensure student requests are heard.
Please contact Mr. Thorn or Ms. Wickenden if you have any further questions about student voice or leadership at Walthamstow Academy.
