Walthamstow Academy is constantly building strong links with universities to enable our students to have wider experiences with universities, such as:

  • St. Peters’ College, University of Oxford workshops, lectures, and admissions support

  • Trinity College, University of Cambridge workshops, lectures, and admissions support

  • The King's College London K+ Programme, offering a mentoring scheme to students.

  • UCL Realising Opportunities Programme, providing skills development opportunities and information to help students make informed decisions about their future; supporting students in their current studies.

  • Student Finance sessions by Student Finance UK.

  • Attending UCAS conventions, such as UK University Fair at the Emirate's stadium.

Intensive preparation through the UCAS process

  • Futures sessions every week to help prepare for University and adulthood

  • Focused Higher Education Half Term with specific events arranged to support students with early preparation for applications to UCAS.

  • Visiting speakers include specialists from Newcastle University, Cambridge University and University College London.

  • UNIFROG search tool to identify universities that best suit your needs and interests.

  • Personal statement training, including one-to-one support and group sessions.

  • Access to UKCAT and BMAT exam preparation for medicine and dentistry.

  • One to one mentoring for UCAS, teacher references and grade predictions.

  • Mock university interviews, support and training

  • Enrichment learning opportunities such as excursions away to prestigious Villiers Park run by Cambridge university, for an Inspiring Excellence Programme.

Student support

  • One-to-one progression mentoring and subject tutoring

  • Specially selected tutors with extensive experience and knowledge of A-Levels and UCAS.

  • Specialist teacher with contacts with Russell Group universities and Oxbridge.

  • A number of teachers that have attended Russell Group universities with first-hand experience in the process for applying for medicine and successfully applying to Oxbridge.

  • Access to and events run by Access Aspiration to help you prepare for your future.
